The crunch Egyptian Premier League match between Al Ahly and Pyramids FC on Friday night will be officiated by Spanish referee Javier Rojas.
Rojas will be assisted by linesmen Alfredo Rodríguez, Rodríguez Moreno as well as fourth official, Victor Garcia. Isidro Díaz de Mera will serve as the video assistant referee for the game and Mateo Busquets will be his assistant.
The clash between the clubs at Cairo Stadium could prove decisive in terms of the title: Pyramids, who have never won a major trophy, are leading the table with 68 points, 11 points ahead of the second-placed Al Ahly, who still have four matches in hand.
It will be the first clash between the clubs this season, as their match in the first half of the campaign was postponed due their participation in CAF club competitions.
“We are ready and in a good moment before Al Ahly’s match. We have confidence and I am so optimistic ahead of the match. We have been playing excellent football and we will do the same against Al Ahly. The pressure is on them, not us,” said Pyramids manager Krunoslav Jurčić.
Ahead of the eagerly-anticipated clash, the two teams have been enjoying an incredible run of form, with Pyramids winning 14 consecutive matches, and the Red Eagles chasing them with 12 wins in a row.
Marcel Koller, Al Ahly’s manager, discussed the importance of the match in the two-horse title race: “It is gonna be a massive game. We need to do our best to win the match. We must defeat Pyramids if we want to win the league.”
