Saudi Pro League club Al Wehda are reportedly keen on signing Al Ahly goalkeeper and captain Mohamed El Shenawy.
The shot-stopper is apparently keen on a move to Saudi Arabia, having discussed his future with Al Ahly’s board after enduring an injury-disrupted season.
Al Ahly relied on their reserve goalkeeper, Mostafa Shobeir, who guided them to the CAF Champions League title without conceding a single goal.
El Shenawy and Shobeir have since shared game time for the Red Eagles, though the former feels that his time as undisputed number one has lapsed – encouraging him to embark on a new chapter in his career.
Ahead of the most recent Premier League match against Pyramids, Al Ahly manager Marcel Koller was clear about his goalkeeper selection.
“El Shenawy is back from a major injury and will not play every game. Shobeir has been fantastic for us and he will play some matches because I want to keep him in top shape to be ready to support the team when needed,” said the Swiss tactician.
El Shenawy’s contract expires at the end of June in 2025, making him eligible to sign with a new club starting in January.
