Leicester have announced the permanent signing of Abdul Fatawu from Sporting CP ahead of their return to the Premier League after a one-year absence.

The Foxes were relegated from the top tier of English football in May 2023, but they made a swift comeback after winning the Championship title last season.

New manager Steve Cooper has been hard at work beefing up his squad before the season-opener against Tottenham at the King Power Stadium on August 19, with Bobby Decordova-Reid, Michael Golding and Caleb Okoli already through the door.

Fatawu has now become the fourth new arrival after his loan deal was made permanent. The Ghana international impressed during his temporary stint last term as the East Midlands outfit edged Ipswich to the title, contributing six goals and 13 assists in 40 league appearances.

The 20-year-old winger, who spent just one season in Portugal with the Lions, is relishing the prospect of testing himself at the highest level in England.

“I feel amazing. It’s so good to be back and I’m just back to focus again for next season. I feel so much motivation to be in the Premier League,” he told Foxes Hub.

“It’s something new to me. I’m going to go hard for that, with the team. I can’t wait to see [my team-mates]. I’ve missed them so much. They are like a family now.”
