Yusuph Kagoma, one of Simba SC’s new signings, says he welcomes competition for places in the team’s midfield as they gear up for the 2024-25 season.

Wekundu wa Msimbazi are looking to take the fight to arch rivals Young Africans, who have dominated the Mainland Tanzanian Premier League in recent seasons, and have thus made major changes to their squad.

This is particularly true in the midfield department, where Kagoma joins Augustine Okejepha, Debora Mavumbo, Jean Charles Ahoua, and Omary Omary as new signings.

This means Simba now has significant depth as far as ‘engine room’ options are concerned, but Kagoma is eager to prove himself.

“There is always talk about the number of players in a squad, but that doesn’t bother me,” he is quoted by The Guardian. “I am here to work hard and convince the technical bench to give me a chance.”

Kagoma went on to voice his confidence in Simba’s prospects for the upcoming season.

“I believe we will do well because of the quality and strength we have. Competition is inevitable when you have many players, but that’s what makes a team stronger,” he stated.

“Personally, I am not afraid of competition. We are all here to fight and help the team succeed. Simba SC fans have high hopes this season, and we plan to make sure we bring them happiness.”

The midfielder also explained that joining the Dar es Salaam club fulfils a long-held ambition: “Choosing Simba was an easy decision for me. Playing for Simba has been a dream of mine since I was a child, and when the opportunity came, I didn’t hesitate.”
