Milutin Sredojevic has warned new Simba SC coach Fadlu Davids that he will come under huge pressure in his post.
Davids, who has worked in coaching roles at Maritzburg United, Orlando Pirates and Raja Casablanca, was appointed to the top job at Wekundu wa Msimbazi earlier this month.
Sredojevic, known as ‘Micho’, is a former coach for Simba’s arch rivals Young Africans, and has also worked at Pirates, Zamalek and national teams such as Uganda, Rwanda, Zambia and Libya.
Micho led Yanga to the Tanzanian Premier League title in 2007 and has noted that the weight of expectation which comes with leading one of the Dar es Salaam heavyweights is significant.
“Simba carries so much weight that even their actions have a ripple effect across East Africa, not just Tanzania,” Sredojevic is quoted by The Guardian.
This is even further enhanced for Simba, as they have fallen into the shadow of Yanga’s relentless success in recent seasons.
“He (Davids) is going to a different environment with kind people where he will be received in the best possible way,” the former Young Africans mentor explained.
“However, the honeymoon will finish very soon, and he will enter the pressure of the rivalry with Young Africans, plus competing on the continent and trying to match the standard that the team has had in recent years.”
Sredojevic added, “Fadlu is a great coach and just needs to adjust and acclimatise. It is now a good platform to take as a head coach, especially at Simba along with assistant coach Darian Wilken, who worked with me at Orlando Pirates.”
