Trabzonspor are hopeful of finalising a deal to sign Paul Onuachu on a permanent transfer from Southampton by the end of this month.

The Nigeria international enjoyed a productive 2023-24 campaign on loan with the Black Sea Storm, scoring 17 goals in 25 league and cup appearances.

Onuachu joined the Turkish club following the Saints’ relegation from the Premier League in May 2023 and he is keen to continue his career at Papara Park.

Trabzonspor president Ertugrul Dogan revealed that progress is being made in negotiations with the Championship outfit, with the transfer fee being the only sticking point.

“There is no problem between us and Onuachu,” Dogan told A Spor. “He and his family love the city very much, he constantly repeats to us and his family that he wants to stay here.

“His club have a serious offer, they are slowly going down [on their asking price]. We are also going up. Hopefully, we plan to finalise this business within the next week.”

Onuachu made the move to England in January 2023 after spending three-and-a-half seasons at Genk, but he only featured 11 times for Southampton without finding the back of the net and linked up with Abdullah Mucib Avci’s side six months later.
