Egypt begin their quest for a first medal in the men’s football tournament at the 2024 Olympic Games when they take on Dominican Republic in a Group C clash at the Stade de la Beaujoire on Wednesday, July 24.

The Pharaohs qualified for the Games in Paris via the 2023 Under-23 Africa Cup of Nations, where they reached the final before losing 2-1 to Morocco in extra time.

Egypt have represented Africa in the Olympics on 12 occasions, more than any other team on the continent, although they have to bring home a medal.

The North Africans’ best performances saw them reach the semi-finals in 1928 and 1964 as they went on to finish fourth each time, just missing out on the bronze medal.

Dominican Republic are making their maiden appearance at Paris 2024, having qualified as runners-up at the 2022 CONCACAF Championship.

Los Quisqueyanos beat El Salvador, Jamaica and Guatemala before their dream run was ultimately ended by the United States in the final.
