With the Men’s Football Tournament at the 2024 Paris Games underway, Morocco & Argentina played to an eventful 2-2 draw in their Group B opener at Stade Geoffroy-Guichard on Wednesday afternoon.
Morocco commenced the game on the front foot and made their intentions clear by committing bodies forward at every attack. While Morocco played at a high tempo, Argentina did not hold back and matched the early pace set by the African side.
Tarik Sektiou’s charges took the lead on the stroke of half-time as Soufiane Rahimi added his name to the scoresheet. After capping off a well-worked passing move on the edge of the Argentina area, Rahimi did well to rifle the ball home with confidence.
The Atlas Lions doubled their advantage moments after the referee spotted an infringement inside the 18-yard-area before pointing to the spot. Rahimi then stepped up and guided his penalty into the bottom left corner of the goal
After a period of sustained pressure by Argentina, Giuliano Simeone pulled one back for his nation in the 68th minute after guiding home Julio Soler’s wayward shot inside the box.
Then, following a frantic end to the game, Argentina managed to level matters in the 15th minute of stoppage time. After hitting the bar twice in a matter of seconds, the ball then fell to Cristian Medina who headed the ball home from close range.
