Ukraine bag famous victory over dominant Morocco

In what was one of the most thrilling football matches at the 2024 Paris Olympics so far, Ukraine managed to record a famous 2-1 win against Morocco at Stade de la Beaujoire on Saturday evening.

Ukraine took the game to Morocco during the early stages of the match and looked comfortable in possession inside the first five minutes. Not holding back, Achraf Hakimi and company made their intentions known by getting up the pitch with pace and vigor.

Dmytro Kryskiv broke the deadlock in the 22nd of the match following a well-worked move toward the Morocco 18-yard-area. With Maksym Braharu doing well to evade his opponent, the Ukraine number 10 managed to find Kryskiv with an inch perfect pass, who subsequently guided the ball into the back of the net.

Soon after taking the lead, the European side looked comfortable in surrendering the ball possession count en-route to the half-time whistle.

Morocco dominated the second-half and had Ukraine defending on the edge of their area for much of the encounter.

Nonetheless, the Moroccans drew level shortly after the hour-mark as Soufiane Rahimi added his name to the scoresheet via the penalty spot, after the referee spotted an infringement inside the box.

However, it was Ukraine who had the last laugh as Ihor Krasnopir scored the winner deep into stoppage time. Amid a rare attacking break by Ukraine, Krasnopir did well to sniff out an inviting position inside the area before guiding the ball home from close range.
