Egypt will be looking to reach the semi-finals of the Olympic Games for the first time in 60 years when they take on Paraguay at the Stade Velodrome on Friday, August 2.

The Pharaohs have qualified for the Games more than any other African team (13 times), but they’ve yet to win a medal in the football tournament.

They have come close on two occasions, making it to the last four in 1928 and 1964, although their medal dreams were dashed by Argentina (6-0) and Hungary (6-0) respectively.

Rogerio Micale’s side are unbeaten thus far at Paris 2024 after topping Group C on seven points with a record of two wins and a draw.

After being held to a 0-0 stalemate by Dominican Republic on July 24, the North Africans edged Uzbekistan 1-0 three days later before claiming a surprise 2-1 win over Spain on July 30.

La Albirroja finished second in Group D, three points behind Japan, who thumped them 5-0 on July 24. But the South Americans bounced back with victories against Israel (4-2) and Mali (1-0).
