Morocco will be looking to make more history when they take on Spain in the semi-finals of the men’s football tournament at the 2024 Olympic Games on Monday in Marseille.

The Atlas Lions progressed beyond the quarter-finals for the first time following a 4-0 rout of United States at Parc des Princes on Friday.

Soufiane Rahimi opened the scoring from the penalty spot on 29 minutes to take his tally at Paris 2024 to five goals, with Ilias Akhomach (63′), Achraf Hakimi (70′) and El Mehdi Maouhoub (90+1′ PEN) wrapping up the big win in the second half.

Tarik Sektioui’s side have now won three of their four games, the only blip coming on July 27 when they suffered a 2-1 defeat against Ukraine.

La Roja booked a date with the North Africans after running out convincing 3-0 victors over previously undefeated Japan at the Groupama Stadium on Friday.

A brace from Fermin Lopez (11′, 73′) put 1992 gold medalists in a control and Abel Ruiz sealed the win four minutes from time.

Santi Denia’s side have already lost once to African opposition at the Games when they went down 2-1 to Egypt on July 30.
