Real Sociedad striker Umar Sadiq has issued an apology over an offensive post he made on social media at the weekend which caused a stir.

The Nigeria international posted an image depicting a middle finger, but subsequently deleted it as rumours began to swirl of the intent behind the gesture.

It has been suggested that the post was aimed at the Spanish club amid claims that he could be offloaded following an underwhelming 2023-24 season at the Reale Arena.

Sadiq only scored three goals in 26 La Liga appearances for Imanol Alguacil’s side and found himself riding the pine for the final three months of the campaign.

However, the 27-year-old has insisted the rude gesture wasn’t directed at anyone in particular, although he apologised nonetheless for his actions.

“Apology for my recent post; it was a post by mistake; I didn’t do it intentionally,” he said. “I am not referring to something or against anyone. Thank you for your understanding.”
