With competitive football in South Africa now in full swing, Sekhukhune United and Cape Town City will go toe-to-toe in the quarter-finals of the MTN8 tournament at the Peter Mokaba Stadium on Saturday. Kick-off is at 15:00 CAT.
With the new Betway Premiership on the horizon, the MTN8 tournament serves as an exciting curtain raiser to the new South African football league season.
Both Sekhukhune and City failed to make it beyond the Quarter-final stage of the 2023 MTN8 tournament, following defeats to Orlando Pirates and Kaizer Chiefs respectively.
Babina Noko captain Linda Mntambo spoke highly of City heading into this weekend’s fixture and mentioned that the Cape side will look to attack from the first whistle.
“It’s going to be an exciting fixture. We know what Cape Town City can bring on the day,” Mntambo said.
“Ever since they got their status from (Mpumalanga) Aces, they’ve never really changed their identity – they’ve always been a team that plays on the front foot.”
City coach Eric Tinkler echoed Mntambo’s sentiments by expressing that they’ve assembled a strong squad ahead of the 2024/25 campaign.
“I know we put together a great squad back in 2016 but I think, all in all, the depth that we have currently in the squad is probably the best squad we’ve had at the club, which bodes well that you gonna have good players,” Tinkler said.
