Leicester City have provided an injury update on 2017 African Youth Player of the Year Patson Daka.

The Zambia international Daka limped off during the first half of a recent friendly away to France’s RC Lens and ‘will not be available for selection for a period of time’ according to the club website.

Daka, 25, will miss Monday’s English Premier League opener against Tottenham Hotspur and he is also an injury doubt for Zambia’s 2025 AFCON qualifiers scheduled for next month.

“Patson [Daka] obviously is not great news,” Leicester manager Steve Cooper said on the club’s website.

“He suffered quite a serious ankle injury last week in the game in Lens and he is going to be out for a good few months.

“He’s having an operation today (Friday). That’s really unfortunate for him because he was looking good in pre-season.”

Daka is Zambia’s star player having netted 21 goals in 48 matches for Chipolopolo who will face Ivory Coast and Sierra Leone next month.
