An administrative error led to Fovu Club fielding just eight players against Paynesville in the CAF Confederation Cup on Sunday.
The Cameroonian club travelled to Monrovia, Libya with a full squad for the first leg of their preliminary first-round tie, but three players were missing when they took to the field at the SKD Stadium.
The match went ahead as Fovu Club had one more player on the pitch than the minimum of seven required as per FIFA regulations and they were no match for Paynesville, who ran out comfortable 4-0 victors.
It was not clear at first why the Baham outfit didn’t have a full team, but it later emerged that their administrators failed to register the rest of the players with the Confederation of African Football (CAF).
African football journalist Micky Jnr took to social media on Monday to confirm the developments, saying: “I forgot to say that Fovu Baham lost 4-0 to Paynesville from Liberia because the Cameroon side played the game with only 8 players.
“Their administrators made a mistake and failed to register the rest of the players on CAF CMS.”
