Done Deal! Highly-rated Faye joins French club

Senegal international Mikayil Faye has completed his transfer to French club Stade de Rennais from Spanish giants FC Barcelona.

The 20-year-old defender has joined Rennes on a permanent deal after a successful stint with Barca’s reserve team in the Primera Federación.

Rennais will reportedly pay €10.3 million as the initial fee and the deal has a €25 million buy-back clause for Barcelona, and a 30% sell-on clause has also been included.

“Stade Rennais F.C. and FC Barcelona have reached an agreement for the transfer of the great Senegalese hope of the 2004 generation,” a Rennais statement read.

“The central defender has signed for a period of four seasons.”

Faye, who is a Diambars academy product, reached the round of 16 of the 2019 FIFA Under-17 World Cup with Senegal U17.

He scored on his senior debut for Senegal on 22 March 2024, in a friendly match against Gabon.
