The draws for the league phase of the Europa League and the Conference League took place on Friday as the new format served up some juicy match-ups for many African players.


The newly-structured Europa League sees each team play eight matches against eight different opponents, with four home and four away fixtures.


Manchester United’s Andre Onana and Noussair Mazraoui will face Rangers (H), Porto (A), PAOK (H), Fenerbahce (A), Bodo/Glimt (H), Viktoria Plzen (A), Twente (H) and Steaua Bucuresti (A).


Tottenham’s Yves Bissouma and Pape Matar Sarr will go up against Roma (H), Rangers (A), AZ Alkmaar (H), Ferencvaros (A), Qarabag (H), Galatasaray (A), IF Elfsborg (H) and TSG Hoffenheim (A).


Lyon quartet Wilfried Zaha, Said Benrahma, Moussa Niakhate and Ernest Nuamah are set to lock horns with Eintracht Frankfurt (H), Rangers (A), Olympiacos (H), Fenerbahce (A), Ludogorets Razgrad (H), Qarabag (A), Besiktas (H) and TSG Hoffenheim (A).


Nice, who have seveal Africans on their books including Mohamed Abdelmonem, Terem Moffi, Billal Brahimi and Evann Guessand, will take on Rangers (H), Lazio (A), Real Sociedad (H), Ferencvaros (A), Bodo/Glimt (H), Union Saint-Gilloise (A), Twente (H) and IF Elfsborg (A).


Similar to the Europa League, the Conference League pits each team against six others from different associations, also with equally divided home and away games.


Chelsea’s Nicolas Jackson will test himself against Gent (H), FC Heidenheim (A), Astana (A),  Shamrock Rovers (H), Panathinaikos (A) and Noah (H), while Fiorentina duo Amir Richardson and Christian Kouame are set to meet LASK (H), APOEL (A), Vitoria de Guimaraes (A), The New Saints (H), St Gallen (A) and Pafos (H).


Real Betis’ Abde Ezzalzouli will face off against Copenhagen (H), Legia Warsaw (A), HJK (H), Mlada Boleslav (A), Petrocub Hîncesti (A) and Celje (H).
