Egyptian giants Zamalek have announced the signing of Moroccan full-back Mahmoud Bentayg.
The 24-year-old has joined the White Knights on a season-long loan deal from French Ligue 1 club Saint-Etienne.
Bentayg is expected to fill the void left by Ahmed Fetouh who was arrested after a deadly car crash last month and 39-year-old Mohamed Abdelshafy who is set to retire.
“Zamalek is a big team that is globally popular, and I’m proud to be here,” the former Raja Casablanca star said.
Bentayg began his career in Morocco as a youth player with AJ Sportive before joining Tihad AS in 2020, where he took part and scored in the 2020/21 CAF Confederation Cup, the club’s first African participation.
In 2022, the Casablanca-born player joined Raja and he was named in the 2022/23 Moroccan Botola Pro League Team of the Season before joining Saint-Etienne in 2023.
He helped Saint-Etienne secure promotion to Ligue 1 from Ligue 2 – making 21 appearances in the French second tier and scoring once.
