The 2025 AFCON will be the 35th edition of the biennial continental tournament organised by the Confederation of African Football (CAF), and will be held in Morocco from 21 December 2025 to 18 January 2026.

Qualifying for the tournament will take place in three ‘blocks’ in September (Matchday 1 & 2), October (Matchday 3 & 4) and November (Matchday 5 & 6) of 2024. The top two teams in each qualifying group will advance to the AFCON tournament.

Matchday 1 and 2 fixtures are taking place from Wednesday 4 September to Tuesday 10 September 2024.

LIVE UPDATES:

23:05 – Full-time. Senegal 1-1 Burkina Faso. The Lions of Teranga are dealt a sucker punch at the death as Ousseni Bouda pops up in the 95th minute to score a dramatic equaliser for the Stallions to earn them a vital point on the road.

23:03 – Full-time. Mali 1-1 Mozambique. The Eagles have to settle for a point in their opening match of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers on home soil.

23:02 – Full time. Ivory Coast 2-0 Zambia. A winning start for Ivory Coast, with the Elephants next in action on Tuesday 10 September against Chad, while Chipolopolo will want to bounce back at home to Sierra Leone on the same day.

23:00 – Full time. Morocco 4-1 Gabon. An emphatic win for 2025 AFCON hosts Morocco, who will next play Lesotho in Agadir on Monday 9 Sepetmber. Gabon will aim to bounce back on Tuesday 10 September at home to CAR.

22:56 – Full-Time. Egypt 3-0 Cape Verde. Goals from Rabia (23′), Marmoush (45+1′) and Adel (70′) earned the Pharaohs a well-deserved win in a Group C encounter played in Cairo. Both teams will be in action on Tuesday as Egypt take on Botswana in Francistown, while Cape Verde lock horns with Mauritania in Praia.

22:52 – Goal! Ivory Coast 2-0 Zambia. Points in the bag (surely) for Ivory Coast, as Krasso nets a second to make it 2-0.

22:48 – Goal! Morocco 4-1 Gabon. Ayoub El Kaabi adds to Morocco’s advantage in Agadir.

22:42 – Goal! Ivory Coast 1-0 Zambia. Finally a goal in Bouake, where Jean-Philippe Krasso has put the Elephants ahead.

22:32 – Goal! Egypt 3-0 Cape Verde. 23-year-old Ibrahim Adel extends the lead, with the visitors’ defence exposed in the 70th minute.

22:27 – Ivory Coast 0-0 Zambia. Past the hour mark in Bouake, still goalless.

22:25 – Egypt 2-0 Cape Verde. Benchimol and Laros Duarte have been introduced by coach Bubista as the visitors look to pull one back as we pass the hour-mark.

22:24 – Goal! Morocco 3-1 Gabon. Brahim Diaz scores (for the first goal that’s not a penalty in this match) and Morocco extend their lead to 3-1.

22:17 – Goal! Mali 1-1 Mozambique. Yves Bissouma draws the Eagles level as he collects the ball from Fode Doucoure and tucks his shot past Ernan Siluane in the 52nd minute.

22:13 – Ivory Coast 0-0 Zambia. Back underway for the second half between the Elephants and Chipolopolo.

22:11 – Senegal 1-0 Burkina Faso. The referee blows the whistle to start the second half.

21:45 – Goal! Morocco 2-1 Gabon. Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has pulled one back for the Panthers from the penalty spot (after missing a separate spot kick earlier in the match).

21:40 – Goal! Mali 0-1 Mozambique. The Mambas break the deadlock just before half-time as Geny Catamo gets on the end of Bruno Langa’s cross and slots the ball home.

21:30 – Goal! Morocco 2-0 Gabon. Another Hakin Ziyech penalty and the North Africans lead 2-0 in Agadir.

21:29 – Goal! Egypt 1-0 Cape Verde. The Pharaohs’ pressure pays off as Rami Rabia scores to hand the hosts the lead, with Zizo providing the assist.

21:25 – Ivory Coast 0-0 Zambia. Past the 20 minute mark in Bouake, where the Elephants and Chipolopolo are locked at 0-0.

21:20 – Goal! Senegal 1-0 Burkina Faso. The Lions of Teranga hit the front through Sadio Mane.

21:19 – Egypt 0-0 Cape Verde. The Blue Sharks are under siege as the Pharaohs push for an early goal in the opening 15 minutes.

19:57 – Goal! South Africa 2-2 Uganda. Thalente Mbatha strikes in injury time to make it 2-2 between Bafana Bafana and the Cranes!

19:56 – Full time. Togo 1-1 Liberia. It ends all square in Lome between Togo and Liberia.

19:52 – Goal! Togo 1-1 Liberia. Liberia hit back in Lome via William Gibson in injury time to surely claim a share of the spoils in their Group E clash!

19:40 – South Africa 1-2 Uganda. Less than 15 minutes of regulation time remaining in Soweto, where the Cranes are on course for a surprise away win.

19:39 – Goal! Togo 1-0 Liberia. Togo claim the lead in Lome via a late strike from Kevin Denkey!

 19:23 – Past the hour marks in the other early evening matches, as DRC continue to lead 1-0 against Guinea, while Sierra Leone v Chad and Togo v Liberia both remain 0-0.

19:16 – Goal! South Africa 1-2 Uganda. Another long range strike, this time from Rogers Mato, puts the Cranes into the lead! It’s a shocking piece of goalkeeping from Bafana’s Veli Mothwa, who should have made a comfortable save but allowed the ball to skid through his hands!

19:14 – Goal! South Africa 1-1 Uganda. Denis Omedi scores a brilliant long-range goal to draw the Cranes level with Bafana Bafana!

19:08 – Back underway in the early-evening matches, including South Africa hosting Uganda at the Orlando Stadium. The Cranes have made a change at the start of the second half by introducing Allen Okello off the bench.

18:51 – It’s also half time in the other early-evening kick-offs, with DRC leading Guinea 1-0 in Kinshasa, while Sierra Leone v Chad and Togo v Liberia are locked at 0-0.

18:30 – Goal! DRC 1-0 Guinea. The Leopards lead against Guinea in Group H thanks to Edo Kayembe’s 29th minute goal.

18:15 – Goal! South Africa 1-0 Uganda. Lyle Foster finishes off a stabbed through ball and Bafana Bafana lead in Soweto.
