The 2025 AFCON will be the 35th edition of the biennial continental tournament organised by the Confederation of African Football (CAF), and will be held in Morocco from 21 December 2025 to 18 January 2026.


Qualifying for the tournament will take place in three ‘blocks’ in September (Matchday 1 & 2), October (Matchday 3 & 4) and November (Matchday 5 & 6) of 2024. The top two teams in each qualifying group will advance to the AFCON tournament.


Matchday 1 and 2 fixtures are taking place from Wednesday 4 September to Tuesday 10 September 2024.

20h08: Full-time – Cameroon 1 (Aboubakar 65′) Namibia 0


Cameroon maintain their unbeaten start under Brys after picking up all three points in the opening match of their 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying campaign. Namibia had their chances despite seeing far less of the ball, but lacked a cutting edge in front of goal.


20h00 – Full-Time: Mauritania 1-0 Botswana.


Amar’s 84th minute goal inspired the Lions of Chinguetti to a narrow win over the Zebras in a Group C clash. The two teams will be in action on Tuesday as Botswana host Egypt in Francistown, while Mauritania will be away to Egypt.


20:00 – Full time. Nigeria 3-0 Benin.


Goals from Lookman (two) and Osimhen secure a comfortable win for the Super Eagles, who top Group D on three points. The teams will return to action on Tuesday 10 September, with Nigeria away to Rwanda in Kigali, and Benin hosting Libya in neutral Abidjan (Ivory Coast).


19h56: Cameroon v Namibia – Aboubakar squanders the chance to put the hosts 2-0 up in the closing stages as he misses the target one-on-one with the goalkeeper.


19h53 – Mauritania 1-0 Botswana: GOAL! The Lions of Chinguetti’s pressure finally pays off as two substitutes combine to hand the hosts the lead – Amar netted in the 84th minute after being set up by Lekoueiry.


19:49 – Goal! Nigeria 3-0 Benin. No doubt about it now, the Super Eagles will rack up an emphatic win in Uyo. Lookman scores his second to make it 3-0.


19:43 – Goal! Nigeria 2-0 Benin. Substitute Victor Osimhen makes it 2-0 for the Super Eagles, who will surely claim all three points in this clash.


19h40 – Mauritania 0-0 Botswana: The likes of Koita and Ngom have been wasteful – firing over the crossbar in the second-half as we enter the final 15 minutes of the match.


19:40 – Nigeria 1-0 Benin. Less than a quarter hour left to play in this Group D clash, with the Super Eagles still on course for a narrow victory.


19h37: Cameroon v Namibia – Goal! The hosts finally make the breakthrough, with Vincent Aboubakar slotting home on the rebound after Mbeumo’s initial effort had been saved by Maova.


19h33: Cameroon v Namibia – Couple of chances for the Indomitable Lions as Jackson Tchatchoua fires wide of the mark after winning back possession in the final third before Bryan Mbeumo forces Maova at his near post moments later.


19h29 – Mauritania 0-0 Botswana: Attack-minded duo of Baruti and Sesinyi are introduced by coach Didier Gomes Da Rosa as the Zebras look to open the scoring. 65 minutes played.


19:28 – Nigeria 1-0 Benin. Past the hour mark in Uyo, where Nigeria have missed out on a couple of good opportunities to add to their lead.


19h13: Cameroon v Namibia – The game restarts in Garoua with Cameroon head coach Marc Brys looking for an improved performance from his players in the second half.


19h13 – Mauritania 0-0 Botswana: The second-half is underway.


19:10 – Nigeria 1-0 Benin. Back underway in the second half in Uyo, where the Super Eagles are a goal up and on course to go top of Group D.


18h55: Half-time – Cameroon 0 Namibia 0 – The hosts have struggled to convert their dominance in possession to goals as the score remains goalless at the break.


18:53 – Half time. Nigeria 1-0 Benin. The hosts hold a slender advantage in Uyo at the break.


18h54 – Half-Time: Mauritania 0-0 Botswana – No goalless at the break following a first-half which was dominated by the Lions of Chinguetti, but goalkeeper Phoko made two saves to keep the hosts at bay.


18:50 – Goal! Nigeria 1-0 Benin. The Super Eagles break the deadlock in injury time at the end of the first half through Ademola Lookman.


18:46 – Nigeria 0-0 Benin. Nigerian goalkeeper Stanley Nwabali makes a sharp save to keep the score 0-0 between the Super Eagles and the Cheetahs.


18h36: Cameroon v Namibia – Shalulile has another sight at goal, but once again he fails to hit the target.


18h35 – Mauritana 0-0 Botswana: Mohutsiwa and Kopelang have been booked as the Lions of Chinguetti pile pressure on the Zebras as we pass the half-hour mark.


18:35 – Nigeria 0-0 Benin. Chukwueze has an effort from a free kick turned away by the goalkeeper to keep the score at 0-0 past the half-hour mark.


18:20 – Nigeria 0-0 Benin. Samuel Chukwueze misses out on a good chance for the Super Eagles as it remains goalless in Uyo.


18h18: Cameroon v Namibia – Early chances at both ends as Peter Shalulile fires shot across the goal before Carlos Baleba tests Edward Maova with a powerfully-struck effort.


Senegal will aim to take out their frustration at a slow start to their 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifying campaign when they face Burundi in a Group L clash at the Bingu National Stadium in Lilongwe, Malawi, on Monday 9 September.
