Ex-Al Ahly coach Hossam El Badry has revealed that he attempted to sign Liverpool star Mohamed Salah during the earlier stages of his career.
The Egyptian legend turned out for El Mokawloon before opting to join Swiss club FC Basel in 2012. Salah then had short spells with clubs such as Chelsea, Fiorentina and Roma before making the move to Liverpool, where he ultimately became one of the best players of his generation.
Now though, El Badry recently claimed that he had intentions of signing Salah during his time with Al Ahly before being advised that the speedy winger would be better off progressing in Europe.
“El Mokawloon Al Arab Club always produces distinguished players, including Mohamed Salah, who is an example to be followed,” El Badry told Yallakora, as per SNL24.
“When I was the technical director of Al Ahly, I spoke with Mohamed Amer, who was the technical director of El Mokawloon Al Arab at the time, and Mohamed Ramadan, the football director, about adding Mohamed Salah to Al Ahly.
“But the club’s management refused the matter and insisted that he play professionally abroad.”
