USM Alger and Sekhukhune United will have to overturn one-goal deficits to advance to the CAF Confederation Cup group stages, while Zamalek and RS Berkane are sitting pretty after the preliminary second-round, first-leg ties on Saturday.
Sayed Abdallah (45+1′) scored the all-important away goal for Zamalek as they beat Administration Police 1-0 at the Nyayo National Stadium in Nairobi.
RS Berkane are in a stronger position after they ran out 2-0 victors over Dadje at the Stade de l’Amitie in Cotonou, where second-half goals from Paul Bassene (57′) and Ayoub Khairi (90+4′) put them in the driver’s seat/
Paynesville made home advantage count when they secured a 1-0 victory against more-fancied Stade Malien at the SKD Stadium in Monrovia.
Meanwhile, Sekhukhune United were undone by a late goal after they suffered a narrow 1-0 defeat to Lunda Sul at the Estadio 11 de Novembro in Luanda.
