With the South African football league commencing this weekend, Kaizer Chiefs became a hot topic among pundits and supporters online following their dramatic 2-1 win against Marumo Gallants at the Free State Stadium on Saturday.
In what was one of the most keenly anticipated fixtures this weekend, Mohamed Nasreddine Nabi commenced his reign with the Glamour Boys on a positive note. After conceding in the 8th minute of the match, Chiefs stuck together and eventually levelled matters through Mduduzi Shabalala in the 17th minute.
Then, following a well-constructed passing move en-route to goal in the 79th minute, Mfundo Vilakazi’s classy left-footed strike on the edge of the area separated the two sides on the day.
Elsewhere, Cape Town City travelled to the Harry Gwala Stadium for their first league assignment of the season and recorded a 1-1 draw with Royal AM in the process.
Following a fiery start to the game, City took the lead through Prins Tjiueza in the 8th minute but were unable to hold onto their advantage during the closing stages of the match. Then, in a moment that angered the City technical team, Motebang Sera’s 84th minute strike saw the two sides settle for a point in their first Betway Premiership encounter.
On Sunday, Brandon Truter and his side were made to work hard for their three points in a 1-0 win against TS Galaxy at the Harry Gwala Stadium.
In typical Truter fashion, the Natal Rich Boyz looked defensively sound throughout the encounter, especially after Keegan Allan’s 22nd minute opener.
