South African football legend Benni McCarthy recently revealed intricate details on his time at Manchester United and expressed that Erik Ten Hag may be battling to win his players over.

McCarthy, who served as United’s Striker’s coach between the 2021/22 and 2022/23 campaigns, became a major topic among supporters online following an honest interview with Portuguese publication, ZeroZero.

The South African coach suggested that Ten Hag lacked passion in terms of stirring up an emotional connection with his squad.

“In modern football, I believe that players want to see a bit more passion in their coach,” McCarthy revealed.

“They need to feel that the coach is with them and willing to fight alongside them.

“Tactically, I feel that Erik is at the top. He lacks a bit of that fire, that passion. That’s where we differ, him and I.”
