Tunisian football heavyweights Esperance de Tunis have announced the departure of head coach Miguel Cardoso.
The Portuguese tactician guided the Blood and Gold to the Tunisian Ligue Professionnelle 1 title and CAF Champions League final where they lost to Egypt’s Al Ahly last season.
However, Esperance had a slow start to the current Ligue Professionnelle season – failing to win their last three matches as they recorded two successive draws and one defeat which has led to the club terminating Cardoso’s contract.
“Tunisian Esperance Sportive de Tunis officially announces the end of the contract with the Portuguese coach Miguel Cardoso and the foreign technical staff with him, following the agreement reached between the two parties,” a club statement read.
“In the coming days, the new coach of the biggest football team will be signed. Mr. Iskandar Al-Qasari has joined the technical management of the club, who will, starting from today, temporarily, over the training of the first team, until the new coach is signed.”
Esperance have been strongly linked with Comorian tactician Amir Abdou who is currently in charge of the Mauritanian national team.
The 52-year-old, who guided Mauritania to the 2023 AFCON finals, is contracted to the Mauritanian Football Federation until 2026.
