Abubeker Nasir has been offered a Betway Premiership lifeline by SuperSport United after they confirmed his arrival from arch-rivals Mamelodi Sundowns on Thursday.
The Ethiopia international made the move to South Africa in July 2022 when he joined Bafana ba Style from hometown club Ethiopian Bunna.
But Nasir struggled to establish himself at Chloorkop due to injuries and was limited to just 11 appearances in the league during his first two seasons.
Masandawana head coach Manqoba Mngqithi revealed last month that the 24-year-old striker had linked up with Matsatsantsa, although the deal has only now been officially announced.
SuperSport counterpart Gavin Hunt had bemoaned the lack of options at his disposal in the wake of the 2-0 defeat to Orlando Pirates on Tuesday, with Bradley Grobler having suffered a long-term injury against the Buccaneers in the MTN8 quarter-finals two months ago.
Hunt will be hoping the addition of Nasir will alleviate some of the pressure on Terrence Dzvukamanja, who has only scored one goal in five top-flight outings this term.
“SuperSport United is pleased to confirm the signing of Ethiopian striker Abubeker Nasir from Mamelodi Sundowns on a one-year deal. Welcome Home, Abubeker!” the Tshwane club said in a statement on social media platform X.
