The 2025 AFCON will be the 35th edition of the biennial continental tournament organised by the Confederation of African Football (CAF), and will be held in Morocco from 21 December 2025 to 18 January 2026.


Qualifying for the tournament will take place in three ‘blocks’ in September (Matchday 1 & 2), October (Matchday 3 & 4) and November (Matchday 5 & 6) of 2024. The top two teams in each qualifying group will advance to the AFCON tournament.


Matchday 5 and 6 fixtures are taking place from Wednesday 13 November to Tuesday 19 November 2024.


LIVE UPDATES: 


23h05 – FULL-TIME – Angola 1-1 Ghana – Las Palancas Negras maintain their unbeaten streak in the AFCON qualifiers, breaking the hearts of hopeful Ghanaians in the process.


22h39 – Angola 1-1 Ghana – Difficult times for Ghana on the wing as Milson continuously finds his way past the defence to cause danger on the flank.


22h30 – Angola 1-1 Ghana – GOAL! After a lot of hard work, Angola’s persistence finally pays off as Zini heads home after receiving a cross from Milton on the wing. Ghana now frustrated as a draw is not good enough to keep their AFCON hopes alive.


22h17 – Angola 0-1 Ghana – Luvumbo is involved as the wingers drive forward to cause danger.


22h13 – Angola 0-1 Ghana – The match has restarted and the Palancas Negras are immediately putting pressure on the Black Stars to get the equaliser.


21h53 – HALF-TIME – Angola 0-1 Ghana – The first half has ended in Luanda with Angola trailing at home despite having more shots on target. Plenty of work to do for Pedro Goncalves’ charges in the second stanza.


21h31 – Angola 0-1 Ghana – Phew! The Black Stars can breathe easy as the penalty taken by M’Bala Nzola is saved by Abdul Manaf Nurudeen.


21h29 – Angola 0 -1 Ghana – Mensah challenges Luvumbo and the celebrations are cut short as the referee awards a spot kick in the 25th minute.


21h21 – Angola 0-1 Ghana – GOAL! Jordan Ayew opens the scoring for the visitors in the 18th minute with a banger of a goal. Taking his free kick from a distance outside the box and finding the top corner of the net.

Egypt, on the other hand, remain at the top of the standings having already qualified and they will host second-placed Botswana on Tuesday.

After a nervy end to the game, Zambia held onto secure maximum points on home soil and in turn, book their ticket at next year’s showpiece.


19h55 – Zambia 1-0 Ivory Coast: A golden chance goes begging for Ivory Coast after Oumar Diakite missed the target from mid-range inside the 18-yard-area after finding himself one-one-one with the goalkeeper.


19h53 – FULL-TIME – Zimbabwe 1-1 Kenya – It’s jubilation at the Peter Mokaba Stadium as the Warriors book their ticket to the AFCON 2025 tournament in Morocco. The draw means that the nation has done enough to finish second in Group J, whereas Kenya and Namibia unfortunately miss out on a spot.


19h53 – 86′ Cape Verde 1-1 Egypt: Former Manchester United forward Bebe has been introduced by the hosts as they look to snatch a late winning goal.


19h42 – Zambia 1-0 Ivory Coast: The Copper Bullets are posing a direct threat during counter attacking situations and came close to doubling their advantage in the 79th minute. After a dangerous counter attack, the Elephants were kept in the game by Yahia Fofana who pulled off a fantastic save in a one-on-one scenario.


19h39 – 73′ Cape Verde 1-1 Egypt: Both teams are now pushing for what could be a late winning goal following Ryan Mendes’ 63rd minute strike from the penalty spot.


19h37 – Zimbabwe 1-1 Kenya – The teams are still level and Kenya are gunning for a last push in the final 10 minutes of play to pull off an upset.


19h31 GOAL! Cape Verde 1-1 Egypt: The Blue Sharks deservedly equalise as Ryan Mendes beats keeper experienced keeper El Shenawy to level matters. Mendes, who is Cape Verde’s record goalscorer, is now on 21 goals from 84 caps.


19h36 – 60′ Cape Verde 0-1 Egypt: The Blue Sharks have been the better side in the second-half thus far as they look to level matters with Livramento coming close to scoring.


19h26 – Zambia 1-0 Ivory Coast: The Ivorians opened the second-half on the front foot and immediately put Zambia on the backfoot with sustained periods of possession. However, the Copper Bullets are proving to be a tough nut to crack in defensive quarters.


19h24 – GOAL! Zimbabwe 1-1 Kenya – Matters are now level with Konah Ayunga equalising for the Harambee Stars in the 52nd minute. The Warriors, who were in pole position to win are now at risk of dropping points.

Interesting fact: Kenya head coach Engin Firat expressed dissatisfaction with the fact that the match is being played in Limpopo, expressing that the team had to board a five hour bus to get to the stadium and it was difficult for the Harambee Stars to book a domestic flight to make things easier.
