The 2025 AFCON will be the 35th edition of the biennial continental tournament organised by the Confederation of African Football (CAF), and will be held in Morocco from 21 December 2025 to 18 January 2026.


Qualifying for the tournament will take place in three ‘blocks’ in September (Matchday 1 & 2), October (Matchday 3 & 4) and November (Matchday 5 & 6) of 2024. The top two teams in each qualifying group will advance to the AFCON tournament.


Matchday 5 and 6 fixtures are taking place from Wednesday 13 November to Tuesday 19 November 2024.

We close our live updates with the final list of 24 teams for the 2025 AFCON (in chronological order of qualification): Morocco (hosts), Burkina Faso, Cameroon, Algeria, DR Congo, Senegal, Egypt, Angola, Equatorial Guinea, Ivory Coast, Gabon, Uganda, South Africa, Tunisia, Nigeria, Mali, Zambia, Zimbabwe, Comoros, Sudan, Benin, Tanzania, Botswana and Mozambique.


The 2025 AFCON will be held from 21 December 2025 to 18 January 2026 across six venues in Morocco.


22h57 – Full time. Senegal 2-0 Burundi. Habib Diarra’s brace sees the Teranga Lions beat the Swallows 2-0 in Dakar in the final 2025 AFCON qualifier. Senegal finish top of Group L with 16 points from a possible 18, while Burundi remain third.


22h44 – Senegal 2-0 Burundi. Less than 10 minutes of regulation time remaining in Dakar.


22h30 – Senegal 2-0 Burundi. Past the midway point of the second half and it remains 2-0 in favour of the Teranga Lions.


22h14 – Goal! Senegal 2-0 Burundi. Six minutes into the second stanza the hosts have doubled their lead, with substitute Cheikh Sabaly setting up Diarra for his second of the evening.


22h07 – Kick-off, second half. Senegal 1-0 Burundi. We are back underway at the Diamniadio Olympic Stadium.

21h21 – Senegal 0-0 Burundi. Past the quarter hour mark in the first half in Dakar, where it remains goalless between the Teranga Lions and the Swallows.


21h04 – Kick-off. We are underway at the Diamniadio Olympic Stadium in Dakar, as Senegal and Burundi close out Group L and the qualification campaign as a whole. The Teranga Lions are guaranteed of top spot, and the Swallows cannot qualify, regardless of the result of this match.

20h00 – GOAL! DR Congo 1-1 Ethiopia: Dylan Batubinsika scores in stoppage time.


19h56 — GOAL! Ivory Coast 4-0 Chad – In stoppage time, Oumar Diakate lands the the final blow for Ivory Coast. An emphatic victory against Les Sao for the Elephants who secure themselves a ticket into the next AFCON tournament.


19h58– Sierra Leone 0-2 Zambia: Full-time


Zambia see out the game unscathed while the victory earns them pole position in Group G after matchday six.


19h54: Full-time – Guinea-Bissau 1 (Beto 42′) Mozambique 2 (Langa 9′, Ratifo 52′)


Mozambique qualify for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations as runners-up to Mali in Group I. The Eagles maintained their unbeaten record in the qualifers with a 6-0 rout of Eswatini in a concurrent match.


19h54 – Full time. South Africa 3-0 South Sudan. A comfortable win for Bafana Bafana, who top Group K ahead of Uganda.


19h49– Sierra Leone 0-2 Zambia: The Leone Stars are attempting to chip away at the Zambia defence, however, each attacking move are swiftly neutralized by the Copper Bullets.


19h44 DR Congo 0-1 Ethiopia: 10 minutes left for the Leopards to score and avoid their second defeat in Group H.


19h40 – GOAL! Ivory Coast 3-0 Chad – Emmanuel Agbadou scored for the hosts as they went three goals ahead when he took advantage of an incoming cross.


19h38– Sierra Leone 0-2 Zambia: Goal!


Following a period of intense pressure, Zambia double their advantage as Musonda added his name to the scoresheet. Soon after Sabobo struck the upright with a shot from long range, Musonda found the back of the net with a right-footed effort inside the 18-yard-area.


19h28 – Less than 20 minutes to play in Cape Town, where South Africa remain 3-0 up against South Sudan.


19h26– Sierra Leone 0-1 Zambia: With wind in their sails, the goal scoring chances are beginning to fall for Zambia on a regular basis. Musonda, who threatened throughout the first half, remains a live wire in attack for his side.


19h25 – DR Congo 0-1 Ethiopia: Walia Ibex are still leading as we pass the hour-mark. The Leopards are struggling to create clear-cut chances at the moment.


19h26– Sierra Leone 0-1 Zambia: With wind in their sails, the goal scoring chances are beginning to fall for Zambia on a regular basis. Musonda, who threatened throughout the first half, remains a live wire in attack for his side.


19h24 – Ivory Coast 2-0 Chad – Ivory Coast are still two goals ahead with 66 minutes played , and have had 10 shots on goal. They’ve also held 70% of possession in this clash against Les Sao.


19h20– Sierra Leone 0-0 Zambia: Goal!



Following a bright start to the second 45, Zambia take the lead through Emmanuel Banda in the 54th minute. After a well-worked passing move into the Sierra Leone half, Banda finds the back of the net with a left-footed strike just outside the box.


19h12 – DR Congo 0-1 Ethiopia: The second-half is underway in Kinshasa as the Leopards look to level matters.


19h10: Guinea-Bissau v Mozambique – Goal for Mozambique! Stanley Ratifo restores the Mambas’ lead seven minutes after the restart.


19h09 – GOAL! South Africa 3-0 South Sudan. Teboho Mokoena scores from the penalty spot to put Bafana Bafana three goals up.


19h08 – Penalty! Khuliso Mudau is bundled over off the ball in the 18-yard area and South Africa have a spot kick.


19h07– Sierra Leone 0-0 Zambia: We’re back with the second-half!

18h59 – Full time. Egypt 1-1 Botswana & Mauritania 1-0 Cape Verde. Group C is brought to a close and the Zebras’ draw in Cairo sees them join the Pharaohs in qualifying for AFCON 2025! Botswana will appear at the tournament for just the second time and a first since their debut in 2012.

The first half ends with the score tied at 0-0 in Liberia as Sierra Leone and Zambia manufacture no more than three shots at goal between each other.


18h49 — HALF-TIME — Ivory Coast 2-0 Chad Ivory Coast in the driving seat in this clash at home and Chad need to get it together in the second half to start posing a real threat.

18h43 – GOAL! Ivory Coast 2-0 Chad – The Elephants are dominating this clash, doubling their lead in the first half as Simon Adingra adds his name onto the scoresheet.


18h42 – About 10 minutes of regulation tome remaining in the Group C games in Cairo and Nouakchott, where it remains Egypt 1-1 Botswana and Mauritania 1-0 Cape Verde respectively. The Zebras remain on course to qualify alongside the Pharaohs.


18h41 – GOAL! DR Congo 0-1 Ethiopia: Bereket Desta breaks the deadlock against the run of play with the Leopards’ defence exposed in the 37th minute. It the Ethiopia Defence Force attacker’s first goal for the Walia Ibex.


18h41– Sierra Leone 0-0 Zambia: The Copper Bullets are beginning to fire at the Leone Stars as seen in attacks from Joseph Sabobo and Stoppila Sunzu. However, Sierre Leone are doing well to avert the danger.


18h37 – 35′ mins | DR Congo 0-0 Ethiopia: Pressure is mounting on the Walia Ibex’s defence as we approach the half-time break with strikers Mayele and Silas seeing a lot of the ball in the visitors’ half.


18h35– Sierra Leone 0-0 Zambia: It’s been a cagey affair at the Samuel Kanyon Doe Sports Complex midway through the first-half with neither side creating any notable scoring opportunities going forward.


18h32 – GOAL! Ivory Coast 1-0 Chad — Vakoun Issouf Bayo of Watford opened the scoring for the hosts in the 25th minute and they look to be in cruise control.


18h23 – GOAL! South Africa 2-0 South Sudan. Patrick Maswanganyi capitalises on a fumble by South Sudan goalkeeper Majak Mawith and easily taps home for a two-goal lead.


18h21– Sierra Leone 0-0 Zambia: Zambia are struggling to get into the game while Sierre Leone continue to boss the ball possession count after 20 minutes on the clock. However, Kennedy Musonda has been lively for the Copper Bullets in attack.

18h15: Guinea-Bissau v Mozambique – Goal for Mozambique! Bruno Langa opens the scoring in Bissau to register his fifth goal in gualifying.


18h17 – Ivory Coast 0-0 Chad – The scoreline is still goalless at this point with the hosts driving forward but lacking the fire power once they reach the final third.


18h12 – Sierra Leone 0-0 Zambia: Sierra Leone look bright during the early stages of the match as Augustus Kargbo and Issa Kallon have a go at the Zambia goal from range.


18h09 – GOAL! South Africa 1-0 South Sudan. Oswin Appollis does great work down the left to tee up Iqraam Rayners, who has a simple close range finish for 1-0 to Bafana Bafana.

A disappointing end to the qualifying campaign for both teams, who managed just one win between them. Kenya finish third in Group J on six points and Namibia bring up the rear on two points.


16h47 – Cameroon 2-1 Zimbabwe: The Warriors are pushing for a late equalising goal with five minutes left on the clock.


16h38 – GOAL! Cameroon 2-1 Zimbabwe: Dzvukamanja proves to be an inspired substitute as the SuperSport United forward beats keeper Onana in the 74th minute.

15h28 – GOAL! Cameroon 2-0 Zimbabwe: The provider becomes the goalscorer as N’Koudou beats keeper Arubi to double the hosts’ lead in the 23rd minute much to the delight of the home crowd. This time 2017 AFCON Player of the Tournament Bassogog is the provider.


15h24 – GOAL! Cameroon 1-0 Zimbabwe: Inspirational captain Aboubakar breaks the deadlock in the 18th minute after being set up by N’Koudou. That’s Aboubakar’s 42nd international goal – only Samuel Eto’o (56) and Roger Milla (43) scored more goals for the Indomitable Lions.


15h16 – 15′ Cameroon 0-0 Zimbabwe: The Indomitable Lions have done most of the attacking so far, but they are yet to seriously test the experienced Arubi in the Warriors goal-posts.
