Naby Keita is looking to revive his career in Hungary after Werder Bremen announced on Tuesday that he will be joining Ferencvaros on loan in January.

The Guinea international hasn’t had much joy since returning to Germany when he signed for the River Islanders on a free transfer from Liverpool in July 2023.

Keita was limited to just five Bundesliga appearances last season due to various injuries and the club suspended him in April for refusing to travel with the squad for a game at Bayer Leverkusen.

As the 29-year-old midfielder no longer had a future at the Weserstadion, Bremen decided it was in the best interests of all parties to move him on during the January transfer window.

Meanwhile, the Hungarian champions confirmed that the deal included an option to buy Keita at the end of the current campaign.

“We are pleased to have found a solution, together with Naby and his agent,” Bremen managing director for sport Clemens Fritz told the club’s official website.

“For us, it was clear that Naby would not play for Werder again. As such, the loan deal is the right move both for us and for him. We wish Naby all the best in Hungary.”
