AmaZulu returned to winning ways in the Betway Premiership this past weekend, securing a morale-boosting 2-1 victory over KwaZulu-Natal rivals Royal AM at the King Zwelithini Stadium on Friday evening. The win lifted Usuthu to 11th place on the league table.
AmaZulu co-coach Arthur Zwane expressed his preference for a New Year’s Day fixture, citing the need to maintain focus and avoid holiday-season distractions.
“As South Africans, we tend to relax when things are going well for us, but there’s no room for that,” said Zwane, formerly of Kaizer Chiefs.
“We need to keep our players mentally sharp. This is the football business, and we have key games coming up—against Mamelodi Sundowns on the 24th and Cape Town City FC on the 29th. It’s about shifting the mindset to stay consistent.”
Elsewhere, Cape Town City edged past Chippa United 1-0 on Saturday evening at Buffalo City Municipality Stadium, with Kayden Francis scoring the decisive goal.
SuperSport United also registered a 1-0 win over Carling Knockout champions Magesi on the same day, while Polokwane City continued their strong form with a 1-0 triumph over Marumo Gallants on Sunday at the Peter Mokaba Stadium.
