Wolverhampton Wanderers have pulled off the deadline day signing of 28-year-old Zimbabwean Marshall Munetsi from French side Stade Reims on a three-and-a-half year deal.

The former Baroka FC and Orlando Pirates star joined Wolves for a price tag of around 20 million Euros, making him the most expensive Zimbabwean footballer to date.

Speaking to Wolves’ official website, the midfielder called the move a “dream come true”.

“I’ve always wanted to be part of something big, and being part of Wolves is something that is very big for me, and is big for my family. It’s a team that I’ve also seen from afar, and the Premier League is the best place to be, so I’m delighted to join the family, to join the team,” Munetsi told Wolves.co.uk.

The signing of a midfielder was high on Wolves’ manager Victor Pereira’s priority list, with the club going to extreme lengths to make the deal happen, according to Molineaux News.

Wolves club chairman, Jeff Shi, told the club’s official site that staff traveled to France to ensure that the deal would be completed on deadline day.

Munetsi will join fellow Zimbabwean Tawanda Chirewa at Wolves, though the two will not share the pitch this season as Chirewa is currently on loan at EFL League One side Huddersfield Town.

“Obviously, Tawanda messaged me as soon as he saw the news. He was so excited, so at least now he’s going to have his big brother there,” Munetsi added.

Munetsi also told Wolves’ official website that he feels his time in Ligue 1 has prepared him for the Premier League.

“Being in the French league is also very tough, probably not as much as the Premier League, but I think it’s also quite competitive with the clubs that we have. So, I think those games will come in handy once I make this move,” he concluded.
