The Fédération Internationale de Football Association (FIFA) has lifted the suspension of Equatorial Guinea captain Emilio Nsue.
The experienced right-back-come-forward was ruled as ineligible by FIFA in May 2024 and the world football’s governing’s judges ruled that Nsue was never eligible to play for Equatorial Guinea throughout his entire career.
Esue, who was born in Spain and played for the country’s youth national teams, was ruled to have continued playing for Equatorial Guinea “while undoubtedly knowing that he was ineligible” and was given a further six-month ban from playing international matches.
However, the President of the Equatorial Guinean Football Federation, Venancio Tomás Ndong Michá, has announced the return of Emilio Nsue to the national team.
“We are very happy for this day in which we confirm that FIFA has approved the eligibility of Emilio Nsue with the National Team,” Michá said.
“It is one of the greatest achievements of this Executive Board and a great joy for the people of Equatorial Guinea.”
Nsue, the national team’s top scorer (23 goals in 42 matches), can represent Equatorial Guinea again in the next matches.
The National Thunder are scheduled to face Sao Tome and Principe, and Namibia in the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers later this month.
