The teams who’ve advanced to the quarter-finals of the U-17 Africa Cup of Nations have been decided following the conclusion of the group stage on Monday.

Ivory Coast defeated Mali 4-2 at the Berrechid Municipal Stadium, topping Group D in the process.

The Malians also advanced to the quarter-finals and qualified the FIFA U-17 World Cup due to prior wins over Angola and Central African Republic.

Angola thrashed Central African Republic 6-1, with Densel Liyun in the spotlight for scoring a hat-trick in the match. This earned the Palancas Negras a third place finish in Group D, and a playoff spot to keep their World Cup qualification hopes alive.

Reigning champions Senegal also advanced to the quarter-finals and sealed qualification for the World Cup after winning against Somalia.

Last but not least, Tunisia won by a narrow 2-1 over a spirited Gambia in Group C.

The Gambia who still had a chance to qualify for the quarter-finals will now console themselves by hopefully booking a ticket to the U-17 World Cup as they prepare for the playoffs.
