The first leg clashes of the CAF Confederation Cup semi-finals saw Simba SC and RSB Berkane grab crucial advantages going into the next leg.
Simba edged Stellenbosch 1-0 in a closely contested match at the Amaan Stadium in Zanzibar on Sunday. Jean Ahoua’s free-kick taken just before half-time was a successful effort that proved successful, capping off a decent first half from the home side.
This gives Simba a narrow lead going into the second leg which will be played in South Africa, however Stellenbosch will most certainly fight back as they continue competing in their maiden CAF competition.
Simba head coach Fadlu Davids was not happy with his team’s performance however, criticising his charges despite winning.
“Our objective is done in terms of keeping a clean sheet, but you know, we are a big club, Simba Sports Club is a big club, and we cannot be happy with a scoreline like this especially when you really have moments to make it two, to make it three, even to make it four zero,” he said.
Meanwhile, RSB Berkane dominated as they defeated CS Constantine 4-0 at the Municipal Stadium of Berkane. With a large cushion going into the next leg, Constantine will have to pull off a comeback to overturn the result.
