Young Pharaohs and Amajita set for U-20 AFCON showdown

The U-20 Africa Cup of Nations is set to commence on Sunday, 27 April in Egypt, with the hosts set to take on South Africa on the opening day.


Egypt will lock horns with South Africa in Group A at the Cairo International Stadium, with the match kicking off at 20h00 CAT.


Amajita are anticipating a crunching encounter against the Young Pharaohs but vice-captain Patrick Autata says the team is ready for the challenge.


“We are all excited to be playing in this tournament,” Autata said according to SAFA Media.


“We are also mentally prepared in terms of the hurdles and the challenges that we are going to be facing. We intend to overcome everything that comes our way, because we want to work hard to qualify for the World Cup. We want to work hard to even go further in the tournament and win it.”


The tournament kicks off with Zambia locking horns with Sierra Leone at the Suez Canal Stadium, three hours prior.


The Junior Chipolopolo go into the AFCON having received a huge boost, with the arrival of three foreign-based players in camp.


The trio includes Frank Chileshe and Bonephanseo Phiri who are coming in from Georgia and Spain-based Aaron Mbemba.
