Bayer Leverkusen have bolstered their attacking options for the 2025-26 season with the signing of Ibrahim Maza from Hertha Berlin for a reported fee of €12million.

The Algeria international has caught the eye at the Olympiastadion this term after contributing five goals and five assists in 30 appearances for Die Alte Dame in Germany’s second tier.

With the Old Lady unlikely to earn promotion back to the Bundesliga next season, Leverkusen made a move for Maza and activated his release clause.

The 19-year-old attacking midfielder completed his medical at the BayArena on Sunday before penning a contract with Xabi Alonso’s side until the summer of 2030.

Maza believes Die Werkself offers the best environment to continue his development and is relishing the prospect of playing on the European stage, with the club having qualified for the UEFA Champions League.

“I want to prove myself on the big stage at a top European club,” the teenager said. “I’m really looking forward to Bayer 04, to the special close-knit atmosphere, and to a team that has impressed me greatly in recent years.

“Here in Leverkusen, I can continue to develop and win titles – that’s what drives me.”

Leverkusen sporting director Simon Rolfes added: “Ibrahim Maza is currently one of the most interesting young attacking players. Ibrahim suits us and our style of football.

“He has outstanding technical skills, is a strong dribbler and is assertive, and he has an eye for his team-mates, which he uses brilliantly.”
