Ghana and DR Congo registered their maiden wins at the ongoing 2025 CAF Under-20 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) finals in Egypt on Monday.
The Black Statellites of Ghana secured a narrow 1-0 victory over defending champions Senegal in a Group C match played at the Suez Canal Stadium.
Emmanuel Mensah’s 15th-minute goal elevated Ghana to second place in the group standings, while Senegal slipped down to third place.
Meanwhile, Congo emerged as 3-1 winners over the Central African Republic in another Group C match played at the same venue.
Noah Makanza (brace) and Samuel Ntanda-Lukisa netted for the Small Leopards, and Raphaël Nzabakomada grabbed the African Wild Beasts’ consolation goal.
The win saw Congo climb to the top of the standings and Central African Republic remained fourth.
Group B action will be wrapped up on May 8 when Ghana take on the Central African Republic, while Congo are scheduled to face Senegal on the same day.
