The last two spots in the 2025 U20 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) quarterfinals are up for grabs as Tanzania face Egypt and South Africa face Zambia in the tournament’s final group fixtures on Friday.

Both fixtures will kick-off at 8pm CAT.

South Africa, who are currently second in group A, have won two and lost one of their three previous group games and are coming off an impressive attacking performance which saw them best group leaders Sierra Leone 4-1 on Tuesday.

A draw will be enough for Amajita to go through to the quarterfinals, but a win over Zambia will see them top group A.

Although they sit third in group A, Zambia remain undefeated in this year’s tournament, registering two draws and one victory. They scored their first and only goal of the tournament in their 1-0 victory over Tanzania on Tuesday and await a tough task in attempting to qualify for the knockout stages in the form of Amajita at the 30 June Air Defence Stadium.

Playing on home soil, Egypt have stalled after beating South Africa in their opening game of the tournament, losing 4-1 to Sierra Leone and playing out a goalless draw with Zambia. They will need to win and for South Africa to lose or draw if they are to have any chance of progressing in the competition. Should South Africa draw with Zambia, Egypt will need to win by a six goal margin to advance to the quarterfinals.

Egypt are facing Tanzania at the Suez Canal Stadium, who have lost all of the games at the tournament so far and will be looking to leave on a high.

The winner of group A will face the Democratic Republic of the Congo while the runner up will face Ghana in the quarterfinals.
