Mokwana makes history in Tunisia

Bafana Bafana’s Elias Mokwana has made history, becoming the first ever South African player to win the Tunisian Ligue Professionnelle 1.


Espérance de Tunis secured their 34th league title on Sunday with a thumping 5-0 victory over Olympique de Béja at the Stade du 7 Novembre. Mokwana came off the bench and scored Espérance’s fifth of the match in the 78th minute, sealing the title for the Tunisian giants.


This is Mokwana’s second trophy since joining the club, winning the Tunisian Super Cup in February.


Mokwana made the move to the Tunisian capital in August 2024, leaving Sekhukhune United of the Betway Premiership in South Africa.


The winger has played 10 games for Bafana Bafana, comprising of thee CAF World Cup Qualifiers, five Africa Cup of Nations Qualifiers and two international friendlies. He scored on debut on 21 March 2024 in South Africa’s 1-1 draw with Andora.
