Cardoso starting to plan for Pyramids

Mamelodi Sundowns head coach Miguel Cardoso will now shift his focus to the CAF Champions League final after winning the Betway Premiership title with one game to spare.

Bafana ba Style were confirmed league champions for the eighth year running after they beat Chippa United 3-0 at the Buffalo City Stadium on Wednesday to open up an unassailable 15-point lead over Orlando Pirates.

The Brazilians are favourites to lift the coveted trophy for the second time in their history after they eliminated defending champions Al Ahly on away goals in the semi-finals of Africa’s elite club competition.

However, Cardoso insists he will be taking Magesi very seriously on Sunday, just six days before Masandawana’s first meeting with Pyramids at Loftus Versfeld on May 24.

Asked whether he would now be looking ahead to the double-header with the Egyptian Premier League side, the Portuguese replied: “I will start thinking about it now, yeah, I will.

“[But] it doesn’t mean that we will not prepare to win our next match [against Magesi]. Of course, we will because Magesi have been doing well in their last games, so we need to take care of them because we want to finish the league in the best way in front of our fans.

“But I will now obviously start planning for Pyramids. I know that my people are working on it because that’s the way we prepare. The way they are also working on the Club World Cup.

“But about the Club World Cup, I don’t worry at all. I have time to start watching something about Pyramids, but let’s keep an eye on ourselves because that’s also the most important thing.”
