Morocco and South Africa booked their spots in the 2025 CAF Under-20 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) final following Thursday’s semi-final action.
A 78-minute winning goal by Jones El-Abdellaoui earned Morocco’s Young Atlas Lions a 1-0 victory over tournament hosts, Egypt, at the 30 June Stadium.
The win saw Morocco reach the final for the first time since 1997 when they were tournament hosts and they were crowned champions after defeating South Africa.
Meanwhile, South Africa also progressed to the final after securing a 1-0 victory over record seven-time U20 AFCON winners Nigeria at the Suez Stadium.
Tylon Smith’s 66th-minute goal earned Amajita a place in the final for the second time and they will be determined to avenge the 1997 defeat to Morocco.
The Flying Eagles of Nigeria will be hoping to end their 2025 campaign with a win over Egypt’s Young Pharaohs in the third-place playoff match at the 30 June Stadium on Sunday.
The final between Morocco and South Africa is scheduled to take place at the Cairo International Stadium on Sunday.
