Mamelodi Sundowns have enjoyed a dominant season and have broken multiple records en route to winning their eighth consecutive Betway Premiership title.

Sundowns have broken the record for most wins in a 30-game season, which the club set in the 2015/16 season with a total of 22 wins. This season, they have amassed 23 wins with one game still to play.

Masandawana have also tied the record for most wins in a 34-game season in the South African top flight with 23. The record was set by Manning Rangers in the 1996/97 season with 23 wins, and matched by Kaizer Chiefs in the 1998/99 season and Sundowns in the 1998/99 and 1999/2000 seasons.

They have amassed the most home wins in a 30-game season, winning all thirteen so far with the chance to make their record perfect from home this season on Sunday. They have surpassed Bidvest Wits’ 2016/17 season, Ajax Cape Town’s 2010/11 season, and their own 2015/16 and 2022/23 seasons with 12 wins from 15 games.

Sundowns also smashed the record for most goals in a 30-game season, scoring 63 from 27 games to beat the record of 56 set by the club in the 2021/22 season.

Due to the expulsion of Royal AM from the PSL, teams in the Betway Premiership have had a 28-game season, making Sundowns record-breaking achievements even more impressive given that they were accomplished in a season with fewer games.

In addition, The Brazilians became the first South African club to score 100 goals in a single season across all competitions after beating Chippa United 3-0 to secure the Betway Premiership title on Wednesday. Masandawana have had an extremely long season, making it to the final of the CAF Champions League and the Carling Knockout Cup as well as the semi-final of the Nedbank Cup and the MTN 8, ultimately allowing them more opportunities to score.

Sundowns will play their final game of the season on Sunday against Magesi FC at Loftus Versfeld.
