Betway Premiership clubs could soon be scrambling for Percy Tau’s signature after he was released by Qatar SC on Thursday at the end of his contract.

The Bafana Bafana international made to switch to the Qatar Stars League in January when he joined the King on a six-month deal following his departure from Al Ahly.

Tau failed to make an impact at the Suheim bin Hamad Stadium, however, scoring no goals and registering four assists in nine league appearances as Mehdi Natfi’s side finished just two points above the relegation zone in 10th place.

The Doha outfit decided against offering the 31-year-old winger new terms and he is now a free agent, paving the way for his potential return to South Africa.

“Thank you, Percy Tau. Wishing you success in the coming period,” read a short statement from the club, who also parted ways with Javier Martinez, Ben Malango, Badr Benoun, Ahmed Abdel El-Kader and Carlinhos Vinicius.

Tau was linked with a move to Kaizer Chiefs prior to signing for Qatar SC and he will be of interest to any number of teams back home who can afford his wages.
