Zamalek SC head coach Ayman Al-Ramadi has expressed his delight after guiding the team to the Egypt Cup triumph on Thursday night.
The White Knights humbled the newly-crowned African champions, Pyramids, 8-7 on penalties after a 1-1 draw in a final played at the Cairo International Stadium.
The win saw Zamalek lift the Egypt Cup for the 29th time and Al Ahly won it a record 39 times since the inception of the competition in 1921.
“I was concerned about Zamalek fans today, so I am happy with the victory and winning the Egypt Cup today,” Al-Ramadi said on ON Sport.
“The match was difficult against Pyramids Club, especially after they were crowned African Champions just 5 days ago.”
“I felt a bit relieved when Pyramids’ coach decided to take out Al-Shiabi and Lashyn from the match.”
Al-Ramadi took charge of Zamalek on May 7 as he replaced Portuguese tactician Jose Peseiro, who had been fired by the Cairo giants.
“Will I continue with Zamalek? If they decide to keep me, it will be good,” Al-Ramadi, who is a former Cleopatra FC and Al-Dhafra FC coach, added.
“And if the opposite happens, I will provide them with a report that benefits the team.”
