Kenya national team assistant coach Anthony Kimani says the Harambee Stars are actively searching for talented players to improve their depth.
Kenya are set to play back-to-back friendlies against Chad – with the matches on Saturday, June 7 and Tuesday, June 10 – as they prepare for the upcoming African Nations Championship (CHAN) which they will co-host alongside Tanzania and Uganda in August.
Kimani, known by the nickname ‘Modo’ explained that head coach Benni McCarthy and his technical team are on the hunt for players to expand their squad.
“As the coach [McCarthy] said earlier on, there is more room for players to come into the team,” Kimani is quoted by Capital Sports.
“Those who have been selected this time round have a good opportunity to show the coach what they can do and become a part of the team going forward.
“That does not shut the door on those who have not made the team this time round… the national team is always a revolving door.”
Kenya’s squad for the matches against Chad is made up of 25 locally-based players, a smart selection with the CHAN in mind, while Kimani added that he has been impressed with the competitive attitude he has seen in training.
“The mood in the camp is great and every player that has been selected is trying to give his best. I think they are giving us a very good headache as a technical bench on who to select.
“Everybody is raring to go and are showing the coach why they deserve to be selected come the friendly against Chad.”
McCarthy will be seeking his first win in charge of the Harambee Stars, having overseen a 3-3 draw with Gambia and 2-1 loss to Gabon in 2026 World Cup qualifiers back in March.
