Jose Riveiro has begun his tenure at Egyptian side Al Ahly with a 1-1 draw against Mexican side Pachuca at the Chase Stadium in Fort Lauderdale.
The two sides met in a friendly in the United States of America ahead of their respective FIFA Club World Cup campaigns, with the competition commencing on 15 June.
The 2024 CONCACAF Cup champions took the lead in the 11th minute through John Kennedy and maintained their advantage going into the break.
Al Ahly’s new signing Mahmoud Trezeguet levelled the score in the 51st minute, with neither side able to find a winner before full time.
The game went to penalties after the sounding of the full-time whistle, which was arranged as a part of the friendly fixture, with Pachuca winning 5-3.
Al Ahly will face Inter Miami at the Hard Rock Stadium in Miami in the tournament’s opening fixture, before facing off against Palmeiras and Porto in their remaining group A fixtures.
Pachuca are joined by Al-Hilal, Real Madrid and RB Salzburg in group H and will face RB Salzburg in their first game of the tournament.
