Nigeria international Jordan Torunarigha has completed his move to six-time German Bundesliga champions Hamburger SV.
The 27-year-old defender has joined Die Rothosen on a free transfer from Pro League outfit Gent – a club he helped clinch the 2021/22 Belgian Cup after joining them from Hertha Berlin in January 2022.
Torunarigha won 30 caps for Germany’s youth teams, as well as one cap for Nigeria’s senior side, and he is set to take on an important role at HSV, which was promoted to the Bundesliga after finishing second in the 2024/25 Bundesliga 2.
“Jordan became a key player and top performer during his time in Gent,” Claus Costa, the director of football at HSV, said.
“We’ve been following his progress both on and off the pitch and are now pleased that he’s chosen to take the next step in his career with HSV.”
Torunarigha himself is looking forward to his new role in a familiar environment, having played 73 Bundesliga matches during his time with Hertha Berlin.
“I know the Bundesliga already and I’m really looking forward to returning to play in this special league once again, especially for a club with the tradition of HSV.” Torunarigha was fully convinced in making the move to Hamburg,” the former Chemnitzer FC academy player said.
“The people in charge made a great deal of effort to instil me with a positive feeling. I can’t wait to get to know my new teammates, the coaches and other staff, the fans and the city. I aim to utilise all my strengths and experience to assist us in enjoying a successful season together, in which we achieve our goals.”
