El Shenawy heroics earns Al Ahly a point against Inter Miami

Both goalkeepers shone as Al Ahly and Inter Miami played out to an entertaining 0-0 draw in their 2025 Club World Cop opener at the Hard Rock Stadium on Sunday.

The Red Eagles dominated proceedings in the first half, but the roles were reversed in the second stanza as the Herons threatened to score on numerous occasions before ultimately having to settle for a share of the spoils.

Oscar Ustari put on an outstanding display in the opening 45 minutes, pulling off saves to deny Emam Ashour and Hamdy Fathy, while Trezeguet had a golden opportunity to open the scoring two minutes before half-time when Jose Riveiro’s side were awarded a penalty.

However, Trezeguet failed to beat Ustari from 12 yards out and the Argentine shot-stopper was at his best again moments later to keep out a header from Achraf Dari at point-blank range.

The MLS outfit could have gone into the break ahead had it not been for Wessam Abou Ali, who made a last-ditch goalline clearance to ensure the score remained unchanged at the interval.

Javier Mascherano’s side began to hit their stride after the restart and Lionel Messi was inches away from breaking the deadlock with a free-kick that hit the side-netting.

Luis Suarez and Tadeo Allende also went close for Inter before Mohamed El Shenawy came to the fore for the Egyptian giants, tipping Fafa Picault’s header over the crossbar and pushing Messi’s shot onto the woodwork.

Maximiliano Falcon thought he had won it for the Herons at the death after latching onto the ball inside the box, but once again El Shenawy came to the rescue, blocking the defender’s shot with his face.
