DR Congo are making just their fourth appearance at the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON), having last qualified for the 2012 edition when they bowed out at the group stages.

The Leopardesses first debuted at the continental showpiece in 1998 when they recorded their best finish of third place, progressing to the semi-finals as runners-up to eventual champions Nigeria in Group A before being beaten 4-1 by Ghana after extra time. They defeated Cameroon 3-1 on penalties in the third place playoff following a 3-3 draw.

Herve Happy will lead the national team in Morocco after being handed the reins on May 23. The 47-year-old succeeded Papy Kimoto, who vacated his role as head coach 18 months ago after qualifying for the 2024 WAFCON.

Al-Ahli winger Naomie Kaba-Kaba, Paris Saint-Germain forward Merveille Kanjinga and Auxerre forward Gloria Mabomba will be the players to keep an eye on in the tournament and they are joined by fellow seasoned campaigners Fideline Ngoyi, Benie Kubiena, Ruth Kipoyi and Flavine Mawete.

DR Congo have been drawn in Group A and will get their WAFCON campaign underway against Senegal at the El Bachir Stadium on July 6 before taking on host nation Morocco at the Olympic Stadium in Rabat on July 9 and Zambia on July 12, again in Mohammedia.
