Nigeria head to the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations as the continent’s most successful team, having won the title a record 11 times and appearing in every edition since 1991.
The Super Falcons were the tournament’s first six winners before Equatorial Guinea halted their dominant streak in 2008, but they conquered Africa again in 2010, 2014, 2016 and 2018.
Nigeria are also the only African nation to have featured at every single Women’s World Cup, with their best performance coming in 1999 when they reached the quarter-finals.
Randy Waldrum has been in change of the West African giants since October 2020 and guided them to the round of 16 at the 2023 global showpiece in Australia and New Zealand, where they were eliminated by England on penalties following a 0-0 draw.
Waldrum’s side will be looking to reclaim the WAFCON crown from South Africa in Morocco after Banyana Banyana lifted the trophy for the first time in 2022 after beating the Atlas Lionesses 2-1 in the final. Nigeria will be banking on the experience of Al-Ittihad defender Ashleigh Plumptre, Atletico Madrid midfielder Rasheedat Ajibade, Bay FC forward Asisat Oshoala and Montpellier star Ifeoma Onumonu to help them to glory in July.
The Super Falcons were drawn in Group B and will kick off proceedings against Tunisia on July 6 before facing Botswana on July 10 and Algeria on July 13, with all three matches taking place at the Larbi Zaouli Stadium in Casablanca.
